Linton Crystal Technologies and Tesla Engineering Limited form Partnership to Develop Semiconductor Magnet for 300mm CZ Furnaces

Linton Crystal Technologies (LCT) and Tesla Engineering Limited, of Storrington, UK, formed a partnership to develop a 4000 Gauss superconducting magnet for use with Linton’s KX320/300MCZR Czochralski (CZ) process crystal grower.

“When we were designing this new generation of furnace, we wanted to provide customers with a state-of-the-art system capable of producing 300mm crystals with controlled intrinsics. The magnet choice for this machine was significant, then,” explains John Syring, senior sales and process engineer with Linton. “Tesla was the only vendor willing to work with us in a short timeframe to provide a magnet that fit our exact specifications. I have since seen the Tesla 4000 gauss superconducting magnet in operation and it is a solid product backed by good support. There’s no reason for us to go with another supplier unless requested by a customer.”

Linton was the first company to introduce a 300 mm furnace in 1997. This new generation, the KX320/300MCZR complete grower system, is optimized for producing 300 mm crystals with a 1300 mm furnace size. It can accommodate 32-inch crucibles and its 3400 mm-high receiving chamber can grow a 2300 mm body length ingot. Linton supplies the 320/300MCZR with Tesla’s 4,000-gauss superconducting magnet, but the grower can work with any available magnet. It also features a motorized shield lift, low power consumption and integrated communications with the optional proprietary WINGS systems. Additionally, Linton staff work with clients at the time of sale to customize each furnace as necessary to meet their organization or industry requirements.

Linton Crystal Technologies is the world leader in the design, development and manufacture of equipment for producing monocrystalline ingots for the semiconductor and solar industries. The company specializes in silicon and produces equipment for materials such as germanium and gallium arsenide. They also provide technical support, process engineering support and replacement parts to help clients get businesses off the ground, improve productivity and continue to innovate.
