Linton Crystal Technologies’ COO: Not Worried about America’s Future Workforce

Company Sponsors Summer Advanced Manufacturing Experience for Second Year

During the completion ceremony for the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES (W-FL BOCES) Summer Advanced Manufacturing Experience (SAME) program on July 21, Linton Crystal Technologies president and COO Todd Barnum said the program and its participants gave him optimism.

“I’m regularly in conversations with government officials and everybody asks, if you’re going to bring manufacturing back to the United States, where are you going to get a workforce? I look around and this is exactly how we’re going to do it,” said Barnum. “You’ve shown the attitude; you’ve shown the aptitude. You are next. You’ve learned valuable job skills that are going to advance you and the rest of us. This is the future of U.S. manufacturing.”

This is Linton’s second consecutive year sponsoring the program. SAME is a free, three-week opportunity that enables eighth and ninth grade students to experience first-hand advanced manufacturing skills while earning college credits. The program is presented by W-FL BOCES, in partnership with Finger Lakes Community College; it takes place at the Wayne Technical and Career Center.

Linton’s donation helped provide students in SAME free tuition for college credits from Finger Lakes Community College as part of an articulation agreement. It also gave students the opportunity to earn OSHA 10 certification, which provides basic training about common safety and health hazards on the job. W-FL BOCES has presented the SAME program to eighth and ninth grade students each summer since 2016.

Located in Henrietta, Linton is the world leader in the design, development and manufacture of Czochralski silicon furnaces for production of monocrystalline silicon ingots for the semiconductor and solar industries. The company specializes in silicon and produces equipment for materials such as germanium and gallium arsenide. They also provide technical support, process engineering support and replacement parts to help clients get businesses off the ground, improve productivity and continue to innovate. Linton has been the exclusive owner of Kayex technology since 2013.
